III. Work in pairs. Write down two wonders of nature that have amazed you. Discuss what makes them impressive. Answer (example):

Detailed Chapter Summary & Explanation (Easy-to-Understand)

- The Valley of Flowers, Uttarakhand Located in Chamoli district. It becomes a colourful carpet of 600+ exotic flowers (orchids, poppies, primulas, marigolds, etc.) from May to October. Rare animals like grey langur, flying squirrel, red fox, lime butterfly, and snow leopard live here. Snowy Himalayan mountains and waterfalls make it breathtaking. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Why spectacular? Nature paints the valley in rainbow colours every year!
- The Living Root Bridges, Meghalaya Indigenous (local tribal) people train the aerial roots of rubber trees to grow into strong bridges across rivers. These "living" bridges can be 50-100 feet high and the longest is about 175 feet. They last for centuries and are perfect during heavy monsoons when other bridges wash away. Also a UNESCO site. Why spectacular? Humans work with nature (not against it) to create something alive and useful.
- The Lonar Crater Lake, Maharashtra In Buldhana district. A meteorite hit the earth thousands of years ago and made a perfect round crater in basaltic rock. It has a unique saline (salty) lake inside. It is the third-largest crater of its kind in the world and very rare because it formed in basalt. Why spectacular? A gift from space that created a lake on earth!
- Magnetic Hills, Ladakh Near Leh. Cars put in neutral seem to roll uphill by themselves! Actually, it is an optical illusion (trick of the eyes) because the surrounding mountains make a downhill road look uphill. Why spectacular? Nature plays tricks on our eyes and brain.
- Glowing Waters, Kumbalangi, Kerala At night the sea glows blue-green because of bioluminescent micro-plankton (tiny living organisms that produce light when disturbed). It has become an eco-tourism spot. Why spectacular? The sea lights up like fairy lights – pure magic of science!
- The Sundarbans, West Bengal World's largest mangrove forest (about 1,400 sq km) where Ganga, Brahmaputra, and Meghna rivers meet the sea. Mangrove roots protect the coast from erosion. Home to Royal Bengal Tiger, crocodiles, pythons, and hundreds of birds. Why spectacular? A living jungle that fights tides and supports rare wildlife.
- The Invisible Chandipur Beach, Odisha (Balasore district) The sea "plays hide-and-seek". During low tide it disappears 2-5 km away and comes back at high tide. The wide, shallow shelf causes this. Why spectacular? You can walk on the seabed where the sea was just hours ago!
