a) Latitude (Distance from Equator) Places near Equator (like Kanniyakumari) get direct sun rays → always hot. Farther north (Srinagar) → cooler. Sun rays spread out at poles.
b) Altitude (Height above sea level) Higher you go, cooler it gets! That’s why hill stations are pleasant even in summer.
c) Distance from Sea (Not fully in extract but important) Coastal areas have mild climate (sea cools/heats slowly). Inland areas have extreme heat/cold.
d) Winds
- Western winds bring hot dry air from deserts → heat waves in summer.
- Cold winds from Himalayas → cold waves in winter. Sea winds bring moisture → rain!
e) Topography (Mountains, plains, etc.) Himalayas block cold winds from Central Asia. Western Ghats force monsoon clouds to rain on west side.
